Butler's Nesbitt, Sewickley Academy's Kaye Win WPIAL Singles Titles
Will Nesbitt, a senior from Butler High School, successfully defended his WPIAL Class AAA high school singles championship April 20.. He defeated Vivek Nimgaonkar, a senior from Shady Side Academy, 6-3, 6-4 in the final. The Class AA championship featured two Sewickley Academy teammates, with Colin Kaye, a junior, prevailing over Grayson Geller, a senior, 6-4, 6-4. Brad Cisek, a junior from Hampton, earned third place and a trip to the PIAA state championships in May.

Four AMD Juniors Ranked No. 1 in Middle States
Jessica Ho of Franklin Park and her brother Jonathan paced a sizable contingent of AMD juniors who did exceptionally well in Middle States, national and international competition in 2011. Jessica finished ranked No. 3 in the nation in Girls' 16 and was No. 1 in Middle States for both Girls’ 16 and Girls’ 14. Jonathan Ho finished No. 1 in Middle States Boys’ 18 and No. 33 in the nation. A.J. Catanzariti of Mt. Lebanon was No. 1 in Boys’ 16; Amanda Nord of O’Hara Township was No. 1 in Girls’ 12.

McClelland, Payne Capture AMD Adult Open Singles Top Rankings
Jeremy McClelland of Wheeling captured the No. 1 ranking in AMD's Men’s Open Singles for the fifth consecutive year in the final 2011 rankings. Jacqueline Payne, originally from Atlanta and now a teaching pro in Mt. Lebanon, placed first in Women’s Open Singles. McClelland teamed with Justin Thomas of Chester, W.Va. to win the Men’s Open Doubles No. 1 ranking. Kelly Whelan and Ronit Yurovsky were No. 1 in Women’s Open Doubles, while Scott Kahler and Jackie Hughes were first in Mixed Open.

Alok Nimgaonkar & Chris Grubbs of Shady Side Win WPIAL Doubles
Alok Nimgaonkar and Chris Grubbs of Shady Side Academy won the WPIAL Class AAA doubles title by defeating Ben Short and Dylan McCullough of neighboring Fox Chapel, 6-3, 6-4. Both teams advance to the PIAA state championships. Alok joins his brother Vivek who placed second in WPIAL singles last month. In Class AA, William Kleeman and Patrick Dellinger of Sewickley Academy defeated Tym Hoban and Alex Kietz of Winchester Thurston, 7-5, 6-2. Kleeman won the 2011 WPIAL Doubles Championship.

Competition Training Center Serves 41 Top District Juniors
The 2011-12 program celebrated 25 years of AMD CTC PD and many lifetime friendships and was recognized by Gamma Sports making a logo player towel for each participant. Adam Blasinski, Annie Baich Ranked No. 1 in AMD Singles for 2011
Adam Blasinski of Gibsonia and Annie Baich of Mt. Lebanon finished the AMD 2011 District Ranking year with the No. 1 rankings in Boys’ 18 and Girls' 18 singles, respectively, thanks to both winning the last tournament of the year, the Glen Creek Holiday Tournament. Blasinski and Michael Santa Lucia were No. 1 in Boys 18 doubles while Megan Wasson was No. 1 in Girls’ 18 Doubles with Nicole Cyterski and No. 2 with Lucy Gloninger. Here are the top-ranked players in all of the age divisions.
